Gotaimbara Kolama : A Few Moments

Gotaimbara Kolama : A Few Moments

When you think of traditional art forms combined with ritualistic elements from the island (traditional Sinhalese rite of exorcism), the thought could be slightly scary cuz let’s face it, even hearing about it can raise a hair or two due to the way we’ve perceived it with time (thanks grandma!). Gotaimbara Kolama amalgamates all those with a modern twist, humor and a lot more thanks to the brilliant mind of Dennis Perera, his all cast (Nino Araliya, Amila Sandaruwan, Nilanka Dahanayaka, Danushka Dias, Pradeep Ramanayaka, Dilum Buddhika and Sankha Jayalath) & crew and the end result is a out of the box Sinhala theater experience that we think is worth checking out.

We were lucky to have caught their one off performance at the International Book Festival (BMICH) last Saturday and here are some moments from it.

Here’s part 1 of our capture

Here’s part 2

A note of caution: The outdoor experience does include smoke and burning of incense sticks so if you are prone to health issues caused by such you might want to settle in for the middle row or even behind.
