The Biggest Prize Pool For A Fighting Games Championship In Sri Lanka.
The Samsung Combat Arena was the tournament that would redefine the way people thought about eSports, with a prize pool of over 1 million rupees in cash and contra prizes. The tournament has been postponed due to the current covid situation in Sri Lanka, but that doesn’t stop us from giving you the insights as to how this tournament would have progressed.
The Mortal Kombat scene in Sri Lanka has been around for a while now, with names like “Raging Chicky, SnakeEyes & Razzy” are known throughout the Fighting Games community for being unstoppable forces in game. In 2021 the most recent FGC tournament was the Deedat Gamefest which included Mortal Kombat, ending with Razzy winning the whole tournament by beating Snake Eyes in a best of 3.
This tournament was to be the first walk-in ranked tournament hosted by gamer.lk after 2 years, but before the date of the tournament the whole gaming community was shook with the announcement by Wolfgang eSports. The Sri Lanka Fighting Games community decided to join Wolfgang eSports and this came as a surprise for everyone, because this meant all the ranking points that would be gained from the Fighting games will be going to Wolfgang eSports, considering the fact that the Combat Arena was a ranked tournament and everyone feared that Wolfgang eSports will come ahead in rankings and this also, considering the fact that they do have the best FG players in the country now.
Apart from the Mortal Kombat tournament, two cosplay competitions were supposed to be held as well, a walk- in competition and an online competition.
The Prize pools for all the competitions are massive, since the event has been postponed there might be a chance for you to re-register for the tournament in case you haven’t. I mean, if I were you I would consider registering just because of the prize pool. Let’s check out the prize pool for Mortal Kombat and for the cosplay competitions
So the First place of the Mortal Kombat tournament wins
*Rs. 250,000 plus a Samsung s21 plus and of course bragging rights
*Runner up wins Rs. 100,000 and a 27” Odyssey Monitor
*Third place wins Rs. 75,000 and Galaxy buds.
The Cosplay competition was divided into two categories,Online and Walk-in.
The winner of the online competition walks away with a Galaxy A12 and the winner of the walk in competition bags a Galaxy A32.
All in all for gamers this tournament was supposed to be the biggest one after a pause of 2 years. The Hype created among the community, for this tournament was massive. All we have to do for us to have LAN tournaments again is to stay safe, sanitize, and WEAR A FACE MASK like Scorpion or Sub Zero or whatever floats your boat, but MAKE SURE TO WEAR A MASK!
