Jayanga Nanayakkara : Shadow Of The Day (cover)
Jayanga is yet another artist who payed tribute to the late great with his take of Shadow Of The Day which he released on Sunday. He talks to us further on the influence, new music and more.
DecibelLK: Chester’s influence on you as an artist
Jayanga: Chester was one of the voices I looked up to growing up, he had that raw texture in his voice that you only hear from the greats, together with his ability to be able to relate to his listeners through his lyrics and his passionate onstage presence, He’s right up there with Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen and Prince.
DecibelLk: Why that single?
Jayanga: Because when I heard Chester had passed, ‘Shadow of the Day’ just started playing in my head, and it felt like I just needed to make something out of that song. It was one of those feelings that just don’t go away unless you’d something about I guess. Took some time because I was recovering from a slight fever, and for the lack of a better description, I sounded like a castrated mule
DecibelLk: We miss you doing originals, when are you releasing anything new?
Jayanga: Thank you for that! Even I’m a bit disappointed with my lack of consistency, I’m still in the recording phase with most of them. I just want everything to sound just right when I do release the Album. Been learning something new every day, backtracking and then applying that. So as soon as I feel they all sound right!
