DKM & YAKA : The Decibel Top 5
Producer YAKA & singer/performer DKM have been around since 2013 or a little beyond (remember DKM’s cover of We Are Young?) and have been noted for their interesting collaborations which has garnered them a fair share of attention and an award nomination (yes home grown awards) for their single ‘Never Be Alone’ in the Listener Pick category.
Here’s our Top 5 picks, in no order
Letting All My Love – was their first collaborative break into Sri Lanka’s biggest home music countdown – The YES Home Grown Top 15 and stayed on for a considerable amount of weeks.
While a ton of people might know producer YAKA from his collaborative efforts, he is the island’s second producer to have dropped Bailatronic, a genre created by Ranidu. ‘Yaka’s Love’ dropped on the airwaves of yes101 in the Avrudhu of 2015.
Mandira & Maliga aka MnM
YAKA does produce for other artists too and here’s a recent internet hit by the twins.
The Jason Derulo Evolution Mashup – It’s no secret that DKM is hailed as the Lankan Jason Derulo, blame it on his smooth vocals! Last month saw him drop this recording with beatboxer Frizzy Beat.
Never Be Alone – Its no secret that this collaba was the duo’s first number 1 on the YES Home Grown Top 15 and was wildly popular on YES101 and on the LKA internet.
Okay, one more video…Their recent effort which is turning out to be one of those singles we believe will be shaping out the soundscape of Sinhala Music in LKA, i mean how modern & tropical sounding is this?
Dunesh Dee caught up with the two at the recently concluded Colombo Comic Expo
