Big Ears in the Courtyard
What is it?
“Big Ears in the Courtyard” is a series of concerts initiated jointly by Goethe-Institut and Musicmatters – a school that actively promotes the development of an alternative and creative music scene in Sri Lanka – in 2013.
Who be playing on the night?
Doe Eye – Isaac Smith performs solo on the Banjo.
Båliphonics – Båliphonics amalgamates the music of low-country bali rituals with avant-garde jazz. Fresh from a South East Asian tour of Singapore and Malaysia, Båliphonics will celebrate the release of their debut album at this Big Ears.
Serendib Sorcerers – Following up from their well received ‘Jana Gee Reworked’ concert at ColomboSCOPE, the sorcerers feature the voice of Madhawee Shilpadhipathi in their journey to explore Sri Lankan folk songs in a modern jazz context.
Thriloka – Thriloka’s much awaited return to Big Ears will kick off a number of appearances in local festivals this year as well the release of their new DVD.
Derek Beckvold – who is the resident saxophonist for the next few months will be collaborating with sound artist Isuru Kumarasinghe for a performance.
