The Albums & Eps So Far Of 2020 – Part 1

2020 despite being one of the worst years of anyone’s lives, has turned out to be a good one for most things creative. Music from the island has seen a pretty good turn out rate for not only singles but also albums & eps, and here’s a few you would or might not know of that you can get supporting.

Asela Perera – Gold (album)

Pretty much the first album we know that got released this year comes from one of Colombo’s favorite singer/songwriters Asela Perera. Released in the latter part of January, this album saw various cafes in Colombo have little listening stations so anyone could enjoy the album while they were at the venue.

The Drill Team – Naara Sandeshaya (Album)

Possibly one of the biggest Sinhala Rap albums to date by the monster rap crew that is the Drill Team. Dropped on the 23rd of May and that day is to be remembered as it made rap history in the island, literally the first album to hit number 1 on two itunes charts consecutively – Hip hop & Rap.

Ambroz – Bring Me Some Kiribath (Album)

Producer & Dj Ambroz is known for his killer sets and EDM singles. His debut album ‘Bring Me Some Kiribath’ though brought in some pretty interesting surprises for the fans of this 20 something producer, as the album came complete with rap and Sinhala singles featuring a range of fresh rappers and vocalists!

Big Doggy – STHUTHI (Album)

This is another Sinhala rap album that shot up straight to number 1 on the local itunes rap album chart on its first week of release. This 8 track monster release is for proper die hard fans of Big doggy and the genre that is quintessential rap.

Dimuth K – By The Anchor (EP)

Released thru EDGE, ‘By The Anchor’ is award winning Dj & Producer Dimuth K’s debut Ep and makes for some epic listening any day. A true progressive house gem in its own right.

Kyotto – I Am Back (EP)

Dj & Producer Kyotto made a surprise comeback this year with this all new 3 track EP that got released thru Dopamine Music on the 10th of August.

The Soul – Enry Pete (Album)

Enry Pete, the follow up album to The Soul Band’s magnificent first album was released on the 1st of April this year and was nothing short of a brilliant follow up.

Kao$ – Self Proclaimed (Album)

Rapper Kao$ is known to be a part of the Trouble Makers Gang and just mid this year, he dropped his debut album titled ‘Self Proclaimed’. It’s very heart on your sleeve, almost biographical in a way and contains some of his best singles to date including ‘When I Leave’.

A-Jay – Floating Fractals (EP)

Award nominated DJ & Producer A-Jay released yet another EP thru the
Aboriginal label early this year! ‘Floating Fractals’ is a solid techno effort that’s a must check out for anyone who’s a fan of the genre.
