Decibel Exclusive : Elephants In The Room
When we first found about this band and clicked play on their soundcloud, you can only imagine our reaction……
and here’s why.
If that take got you all interested in them, wait till you hear this!
We caught up with the band (Soorya Hasthimuni, Swinly Hasthimuni, Supun Hasthimuni) for a quick one to one on the project and a tad more, jump in to the read.
DB: Tell us about this all new project?
EITR: After spending much time engaging with our different back grounds and tastes in music which range from hip hop and rap, to classical soul and rock n roll chemistry became instant evident. Though levels of experience varied, we learned to work past this by constantly smashing our heads together to fill and complement lapses in each other’s approach and the band naturally found its synergy. Born purely out of the love for sound. As for the name it stems from our family name Hasthimuni, which loosely translates to ‘elephant sage’/or ‘master’. Hence “Elephants In The Room”, also a play to the statement it self because we aim to produce a unique sound that both commands presence as well as the ability to stimulate the listener to think and reminisce emotionally and psychologically, much like the timid though full giants from whom me borrow our name.
DB: Got any originals in the oven?
EITR: Yes most definitely. Strung together from both life experiences hopes and dreams, we want to grab more than the listeners ears with our original music. We want to break their hearts with the splendor of love, out it back together like it does itself and relate to hard times and tragedy through defiance and togetherness. We are a family! And we want to make everyone a part of it.
DB: Influences?
EITR: Our in influences come directly from the three of us and our tastes in music. The influences of David Gilmore, Joe Satriani and Mark Morton alongside Iron Maiden and Metallica, laid the foundation to the sound and skills on the fret board, while Alicia Keys, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Lauren Hill are but a few of the myriad of influences found in the commanding yet delicate vocal and piano work. The east coast rap scene with homage to Nas, Rakim and the late Big L alongside the new age versatility of Kendrick Lama play a major role in the turnout of rhyme style and still maturing story telling.
Keep tab on their soundcloud , FB & youtube for more awesome music.
