An Open Letter To Derana
Dear Management of Derana,
You know it’s a sad day in Sri Lankan media when one of your TV Channel’s personel decides to openly insult a respectable name from the opera scene for her unique take of ‘Danno Budunge ‘ which is known to have a very rich history and here’s what YOUR employee was uneducated about.
Can we ask what is monumentally wrong with this take, if this classic had such a rich history?
Also, if someone else from the Opera world, say an international name were to cover the single like Kishani, would there have been an opinion even from the part of your TV Host?
Your ‘reporter & tv show host’ we believe has the right to opinion, however as a media personnel, there are rules & etiquette’s that are to be honored which we believe was not the case here. Also DID he know that the lady he insulted is a mother of 2? (where is the culture your station stands for?)

Your station has been marked as an asset to the local music scene, from constant airplay to the Derana music awards (minus the reality shows) and more. Why ruin something good with such a degrading broadcast on a national level? Also would’t be producers of such content come into question for their execution of such crass?
We are hoping there would be an apology and the morals of the broadcasting media being honored as our music scene has a long way to go and there is NO need for such low class opinions.
Sincerely yours
Chief – DecibelLK
