10 Years Of TNL Onstage’s 1st Compilation : 10 Years Of Wagon Park
Apart from the Rock Company compilations (sadly there were only 2) came another must have compilation during 2007 and that was by TNL Radio, who annually (except for a particular year) has one of the biggest solo artist & band competitions in the island. It was only fitting that they had their own compilation of the bands & artists be it original music or covers. The very first CD co-ordinated by Anil Balasuriya, produced by Halien Poduction House (Ranil Goonawardene) with the exception of S.A.M’s single which was produced by Azlan Sheriffdeen (Sherifs Productions). Here’s mini look back at some of the singles and where the artists & bands are today.
Remember Wagon Park’s Single ‘Sugarcane Flavored Blunt’?
“Sugarcane Flavored Blunt’ was the group’s first studio single.
Post competition, they went onto performing at several shows, releasing their live album ‘Then & Now’ featuring Thushara Kulathunga & Natalie Soya (who remembers that gig at Clancys?); To being nominated in the Best Band, Duo Or Group category at both YES Home Grown Awards (2013 & 2015) and clinching the coveted award in 2015 in the same category, thanks to their single ‘Don’, which was the first Maldivian single by a Lankan band to gain airplay and become number 1 on the YES Home Grown Top 15. They also released their debut album ‘Stoned’ and this year sees them celebrate 10 years in Colombo’s music scene.
They are also the only band from this compilation to still be around.
Keep tab of the band and there might be a special something to mark 10 good years.
