The Chamber Music Society of Colombo, in association with the Colombo Opera Company  is pleased to present their first production of Opera in Concert.

Dido and Aeneas, Z. 626 is an opera in a prologue and three acts, written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell with a libretto by Nahum Tate. The concert will be at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, on Tuesday, 30 October 2018, at 7:30pm.

The artists will include Royal Opera House (ROH) Covent Garden alumnus Kishani Jayasinghe, soprano in the role of Dido; and Grant Doyle, baritone, an Australian-born fellow Jette Parker Young Artists Programme alumnus from the ROH, as Aeneas. The newly-formed CMSC Chorale, with its Chorus Master Harin Amirthanathan, makes their debut, and the performance will be conducted by British conductor Gregory Rose. The most famous aria of the work is “When I am laid in earth”, popularly known as “Dido’s Lament”.
